Senior Vice President of Corporate Marketing
John J. Clendening is senior vice president of Corporate Marketing for UGS. UGS is a leading global provider of product lifecycle management (PLM) software and services with nearly 4 million licensed seats and 42,000 customers worldwide. The company promotes openness and standardization and works collaboratively with its customers in creating enterprise solutions that enable them to transform their process of innovation.
Clendening is responsible for the company's advertising, creative services, events/promotions, internal/executive communications, online communications, public relations and sponsorships on a global basis.
Prior to joining UGS, Clendening served as corporate director of business and industry public relations with EDS' Global Communications organization. In this role, he directed all business- and industry-driven media relations efforts globally for EDS, including leading and integrating at the corporate level media relations efforts for EDS' four lines of business; eight global industry groups; global alliances and U.S. government organizations; and major accounts.
Clendening joined EDS in 2000 from Honeywell, where he led media relations efforts globally for the company's aerospace division, including managing the aerospace-level media relations program in support of the Honeywell-AlliedSignal merger. In addition, he led the company's media relations efforts globally for major aerospace industry trade air shows.
Previously, Clendening managed all consumer communications efforts for Avery-brand products for Avery Dennison Office Products North America. Clendening also managed major consumer product and business-to-business accounts for Hill & Knowlton and Rogers & Associates.
Clendening's career began as an award-winning reporter with The Evening Outlook, a daily Copley newspaper in Santa Monica , Calif. During his tenure as a journalist, he earned three first-place awards for excellence in writing and reporting from The Copley Press (1986 and 1987) and the California Newspaper Publishers Association (1987).
Clendening is a graduate of the University of Southern California , where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in print journalism/history and a Master of Business Administration degree with an emphasis in marketing. He also studied international journalism, public relations and advertising in London , Brussels , Paris and Geneva .
